KOLONAKI
The bourgeois upper-crust neighborhood of town. Expensive shops, expensive cars, the highest rents in town, but otherwise a totally democratic ambience. Because sitting at the cafés around here you will run into politicians and publishers, law students, lunching ladies, shoppers who’ve just propped their designer bags on the chair next to them to sip an espresso, models, yoga girls, TV stars and starlets. Platform shoes mix with twelve-inch pumps and ballerina flats with tennis shoes and cauliflower hair-dos from expensive salons with the blue, uncombed and matted locks of a young nymph. Equally democratic is the development of shops along the pavements. Bars that have been around for 20 years stand next to brand new all-day restaurants that serve top-notch cuisine. You can’t say that you’ve been to Athens if you haven’t gone for a whirl through Kolonaki. And that’s a fact!
