Legends and Myths in Athenian Mythology
Come and join us on a family friendly tour of Athens, a significant feature of the city’s culture was its rich mythological tradition.
A multitude of stories and tales described the heroic past of the city, the origins of its religious and political institutions and, most importantly, the character and mentality of the Athenians themselves.
In this tour, we will describe those myths as they were perceived by ancient Athenians. We will stand on the spot were Athena and Poseidon competed for the honor of being the patrons of the city. We will learn why one of the hills of Athens stands in its present spot. We will look for King Kekhrop’s tomb on the hill and in the Museum, we will connect with the Caryatides, the eternal guardian Maidens.
